01 / Our Story

Built From The
Student Up.

Master Romeo Gregory was enrolled in martial arts as a kid for the same reasons parents call us today: a positive outlet, leadership skills, and a place to belong. Three decades later he builds programs around exactly what martial arts gave him.

After five years leading instruction and operations at the academy on Rose Ave, he purchased it in 2011 and founded Legacy Martial Arts Family Fitness Center — a school where parents watch every class from the benches and students grow into the ones teaching.

Master Romeo Gregory

Founder & Owner

6th-Degree Black Belt · Master Instructor (GTMA)

Master Romeo Gregory began training in 1991 at Marsh's Taekwondo USA in Ridgecrest, California — enrolled by his family for a positive outlet, leadership skills, and a place to belong. He gravitated quickly to tournament competition, where being part of a team gave him drive, discipline, and purpose.

He started teaching in 1998 at Lovett's ATA Martial Arts in Ventura, and has since trained in Taekwondo, Kickboxing, and Krav Maga — a background spanning traditional martial arts, competitive sport, striking, and practical self-defense. In 2006 he became Head Instructor and Operations Manager at Channel Islands ATA Martial Arts, and after five years running instruction and operations he purchased the school in 2011 and founded Legacy Martial Arts Family Fitness Center.

As a competitor he became the 2010 ATA World Champion in Traditional Forms and Point Sparring, and is a three-time ATA Team Sparring Champion. As an instructor he has developed 16 certified martial arts instructors and coached students to California State, Southwest District, and World Championships in forms, sparring, weapons, and cinematic martial arts.

Ms. Rocio Rosales

Enrollment Director & Senior Instructor

5th-Degree Black Belt · Lead Instructor, Mighty Badgers

For nearly two decades Ms. Rocio Rosales has been part of the Legacy Martial Arts family, and today she's usually the first face new students and parents meet. As Enrollment Director and a senior instructor, she walks families through their first experience at Legacy and helps parents see how the programs support their child's growth on and off the mat.

She started training in 2005 at Channel Islands ATA Martial Arts alongside her family — the oldest of five siblings on the mat together — and quickly became both a leader in the academy and a strong competitor in California's 17–29 women's division. Academy owner Scott Jarvis spotted her leadership early and put her into the instructor training program; in 2007 she began teaching alongside Master Gregory at the new academy on Rose Avenue.

As a competitor she's a multiple-time California State Champion, Southwest District Champion, and a World Championship silver medalist. Her biggest contribution, though, happens off the competition floor: she is Lead Instructor of the Mighty Badgers program for ages 4–6, where she's helped thousands of children build listening skills, confidence, self-control, and responsibility — the habits that carry into preschool, kindergarten, and first grade.

Around Legacy we joke that she's as much a counselor for the parents as an instructor for the kids. Families regularly ask her how to reinforce at home the same confidence, discipline, and accountability their children learn on the mat.

Ms. Rosales holds the rank of 5th-Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, with certifications through the American Taekwondo Association (ATA), Global Traditional Martial Arts (GTMA), Hyper Pro Training, and MASS Training. She was named Enrollment Director of the Year by the National Martial Arts Alliance.

03 / What We Teach

More Than
Martial Arts.

Our leadership track — the LIFT Program, Leaders Inspired For Tomorrow — turns students into mentors who teach, lead, and set the standard on the mat.

LIFT Program — Leaders Inspired For Tomorrow

Belonging

Every student walks into a room where they're known by name and expected to show up.

Leadership

Senior students teach, mentor, and set the standard — the same path Master Gregory walked.

Discipline

Effort over talent. Progress is earned class by class, not handed out.

Purpose

Skills that carry off the mat: at home, at school, and in the community.

Kidz Matter

In October 2025, Master Gregory helped launch Kidz Matter — a nonprofit serving underserved youth throughout Ventura and Los Angeles Counties.

Through mentorship, school partnerships, youth workshops, fitness programs, family events, child-safety education, and community outreach, Kidz Matter gives young people positive role models and real opportunities to succeed.
